Title:  LADY OF THE NIGHT

"Zach, what's wrong?"

"What's wrong?" Zach mocked with a bitter laugh. "You want to know what's wrong?" He reached out and grabbed a lock of Annabeth's hair, rubbing it between his fingers. "This is what's wrong," he said. He brushed his knuckles against her cheek and along her lower lip. "And this."

Suddenly he grabbed her upper arms and pulled her against his body. She turned her face up to his and looked into his blazing eyes. They stared at each other for a long, electric moment, her heart fluttering in her chest and her breathing erratic. He lowered his head until his lips hovered above hers. She could feel his warm breath on her mouth, and she closed her eyes.

"Just how far will you go to get what you want, Annabeth? What would a woman like you do to get the house from me?" Then just as suddenly as he had pulled her to him, he released her. She stumbled backward. "Stay away from me," he warned. Then he turned and strode across the street.
