ABOUT MY GARDEN

Living in Wisconsin doesn't allow for gardening year-round, at least not in the traditional sense. But that doesn't stop me. I pull the last of my flowers out of the beds in November, take December off, and by January, I'm ordering seeds from the catalogs. I start most of my flowers inside in February and grow the seedlings under fluorescent lights in my basement. Last winter, I started 24 flats inside and this fall, I took cuttings from many of my favorite flowers including my ivy-leaf geraniums and lantanas and rooted them for next season.
I only plant flowers that can be cut and brought inside, except for the potted flowers scattered around the patio. And I collect American art pottery to arrange them in. This summer, just for fun, I decided to enter some of my flower arrangements in the county fair. It was so exciting planning and preparing for the fair and even more fun when I won some ribbons! The fair is definitely going to be an annual event for me.
